Plan a romantic get-away
A romantic holiday is a great way to lift your spirits and create some wonderful memories. Selecting the perfect location need not be difficult with so many great locations around Australia and our neighbours in New Zealand, the South Pacific and Asia to the north.
Great get-away locations
Close to home
You do not need a passport to ramp up the romance. In fact some of the best experiences are a surprise weekend a short drive from home. If you live in the suburbs consider two nights in a city hotel with ready access to the night life and a host of bars and restaurants. Relaxing pool-side during the day, maybe the theatre, a concert or a late night dancing followed by a lazy morning in bed before heading to the buffet breakfast to recharge your batteries for the next night on the town.
A short drive can change the scenery and your state of mind creating an instant release from the usual routines. Heading out to a nearby location:
- Mornington Peninsula for a weekend away from Melbourne
- the Margaret River region in Western Australia for a get-away from Perth
- the Blue Mountains for a scenic cruise from Sydney
Any of these may be a fun escape from your regular lifestyle and can be achieved with a just few hours behind the wheel. One of the best tips for a fabulous weekend is to pick a time outside the peak holiday periods. You’ll not only get cheaper accommodation rates, the venues and attractions will be less crowded and the reception you get from local businesses will be a lot more relaxed and friendly.
Airfares in Australia have never been cheaper. With a little forward planning a weekend in a different city can be a fun exploration of new experiences. Identifying a concert, theatre production or sporting event in another city that you would like to see and planning accommodation and airfares a few months in advance can be surprising economical and add a lot of excitement to a relationship.
An international escape takes a little more preparation but can be a bargain get-away outside of the peak tourism periods. With the budget airlines desperate to fill their planes last minute tickets can be ridiculously cheap if you have the flexibility with escape dates. There is also something magical about a quickly planned trip to foreign shores, the change of culture, exotic foods and the intrigue of the laid back lifestyle in many of the destinations.
